Pointe Du Hoc
Tours are generally three or four Full Days but can be adapted
to your requirements
6th June 1944, D-Day, Allied forces launched a combined naval, air and land assault on
Nazi-occupied France. The Allies landed on the beaches of Normandy, and the battle to
liberate France from German occupation began, it was the largest amphibious invasion in
the history of warfare.
Our D-Day tour runs over three full days, we will visit many of the evocative and sometimes
emotional sites that stand as a reminder of the human cost and horror experienced by
those young Allied soldiers so many years ago.
You’ll receive CB commentary as we drive along a mixture of tracks and roads, giving you
an insight from a different perspective of this famous battle

Tour Highlights
Over three or four days, we will visit many of the evocative and sometimes
emotional sites that stand as a reminder of the human cost and horror experienced
by those young Allied soldiers so many years ago.
You’ll receive CB commentary as we drive along a mixture of tracks and roads,
giving you an insight from a different perspective of this famous battle, traveling in a
small convoy of a maximum of 6 vehicles.
Using the highly rated Novotel in Bayeux just a short drive from the edge of Gold
Beach, you will experience the same sand and tides that bore witness to horrific
casualties on the first day of the invasion, but gave the allies a foothold on the
European mainland. We will travel along the invasion front keeping away from the
routes used by those who are unable to venture further than the roadside. We will
see the side of Normandy that has changed little since the advancing soldiers made
their way across and through the lanes and farmland. From the high cliffs and gun
emplacements at Pointe Du Hoc, past the remains of German gun batteries to the
long shallow beaches, such as Arromanches which still have the remains of the
Mulberry Harbours sitting on the sand we will visit many of the evocative and
sometimes emotional sites that now show little sign of the horror experienced by
those young Allied soldiers so many years ago.

D-DAY
1944-2024
Example Itinerary :
Day 1 - Independent travel to Caen area, Normandy for a 0930hr meet. Welcome, introductions
and briefing. The tour starts with a visit to the Pegasus Bridge Memorial Museum, which gives an
excellent insight on paratroopers and glider troops. The original Pegasus Bridge can also be seen
here. We leave the museum and take tracks to get us over to Fort Hillman where we stop for lunch.
We move on to take in Beny-sur-Mer Canadian Cemetery, the Stanley Hollis memorial at Crépon - the
only VC awarded on D-Day itself. We then head towards Arromanches. From the green lanes on the
crest of the hills you can see the Mulberry Harbour and ‘Gold Beach’. Arrival time at the Hotel will be
around 17:30.
We usually have a table booked for 19:30. This is optional but gives you chance to relax after your
journey and also get to know each other over deliciously, typically French courses in a local
restaurant. The cost is approximately €35pp plus drinks.
Day 2 – We travel to the coast and then west along the Gold and Omaha invasion front seeing a
side of Normandy that has changed little since the advancing soldiers made their way across and
through the lanes and farmland. Our first stop; the German gun batteries at Longues-sur-Mer.
Leaving the area of ‘Gold’ Beach, tracks take us to the fire-fight village of Port-en-Bessin before
arriving at the American Cemetery at Colleville. We then visit the shore-line of ‘Omaha’ Beach. A
short drive then takes us to the high cliffs and gun emplacements at Pointe Du Hoc followed by a visit
to Grandcamp Maisy. We then take in a few more green lanes before finishing the day at the German
Cemetery at La Cambe.
Day 3 – Our day starts in Bayeux with a look around Battle of Normandy Museum before visiting
the largest CWGC cemetery in Normandy. Routing inland takes us to Jerusalem, the smallest but very
poignant CWGC cemetery in Normandy, then on to view the Ellon Landing Ground. We loop around
the Fontenay battle-ground thence to Tilly-sur-Seulles. A north-east direction will then take us to our
final stop; the recently unveiled British Normandy Memorial, which records the names of the 22,442
servicemen and women under British command who fell on D-Day and during the Battle of
Normandy. We conclude the tour here - the timings allow for an independent meander around the
area before heading to the ferry port at Caen/Ouistreham and the 2300hr departure.
